Closing of the project “NEAR - NEwly ARrived in a common home”
Last Friday, February 17, AIDGLOBAL promoted the event "Thinking about the Inclusion of Third Country Students in Iscte", a joint initiative with CRIA- Center for Research Network in Anthropology and CIES-Iscte, with the objective of marking the closing of the project "NEAR — NEwly ARrived in a common home", in communion with one of its target audiences
At this meeting, materials co-created from "bottom-up" and "peer to peer" approaches were disseminated/shared, which were the basis of the activities developed, such as the Iscte Welcome and Maps Manual — conventional and unconventional. The results achieved were also made known, with the purpose of assisting the reception of students who will attend or already attend Higher Education at this Institute , creating a space for sharing and networking between students and Iscte itself.
On this day, not only university students were present at Iscte as well as other students who reported on their migration and integration process in a new context, but also teachers involved in the inclusion and monitoring of migrant students.
In the end there were testimonies from the students involved in the NEAR project, namely: "I had the opportunity to meet new cultures and new people", "Before I felt alone and, thanks to these activities, I met NEA — Núcleo de Estudantes Africanos, and it was very positive", "I can share these materials with my colleagues who have just arrived. Thank you. "
With this final NEAR event, a successful chapter closes, but it is certain that this was just a seed that will germinate over time, with the migrant students who come to us.
