Meeting of European and São Toméan Youth for Climate and Gender Justice, in a volunteer camp

Young people from Portugal, Romania, Italy, Greece, and Austria joined São Toméan youth, local authorities, and organizations for an International Volunteer Camp in São Tomé, with the aim of promoting Climate and Gender Justice. The initiative, which took place between August 16 and 30, as part of the Ecoality project: Young People and Local Authorities Together for Climate and Gender Justice, was the subject of interest for RTP, which followed and reported on the group's visit to a cocoa production cooperative.

The International Volunteer Camp was organized with the support of WACT - We Are Changing Together. During the experience, participants, aged between 18 and 29, explored topics such as Climate Justice and Gender Justice through joint activities with the local community. The initiative aimed to mobilize young people to commit to global challenges, strengthen cooperation with local authorities, and encourage the creation of future campaigns and projects in their countries of origin.

Participants had the opportunity to take part in various activities, such as volunteering in the Bô Energia and Sebê Nón projects, as well as roundtable discussions on the reality of Europe and São Tomé in relation to environmental and social challenges. This initiative is part of the project “Ecoality – Young People and Local Authorities Together for Climate and Gender Justice!”, co-financed by the European Commission and Camões - Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua, I.P., and implemented in Portugal by AIDGLOBAL and the Municipality of Loures.
