On April 14, AIDGLOBAL will receive 20 copies of the book “A Formiga Juju na Cidade das Papaias”, a project to promote reading in Mozambique, aimed at schools on the outskirts and institutions that support vulnerable children. The children's story, which will expand the library of the Muxu-quete Primary School and the other libraries in the Chibuto District School Library Network, is part of the promotion of the values of Education for Development, namely through awareness of environmental preservation. The book, by Cristina Pereira, with illustrations by Walter Zand and design by Mia Temporário, deals with the importance of the sun and water for the balance of the planet, making it a valuable teaching resource for Mozambican schools.
The story of Ant Juju is not on sale in bookstores, but is intended for free distribution among people with less access to books. The project “Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares no Distrito do Chibuto” (Network of School Libraries in the District of Chibuto), co-financed by the Portuguese Institute for Development Support, the Portuguese Ministry of Education's Network of School Libraries and the “Ambassadors of Reading” campaign, aims to promote more informed school communities, through access to a varied collection of documents and the promotion of reading activities.
