AIDGLOBAL collects children's books and school supplies for Mozambique

Educational institutions in the district of Lisbon carry out campaigns in favor of the Organization.

Six schools joined the cause of AIDGLOBAL for a Quality Education in Mozambique, conducting, during the 2016/2017 school year, campaigns to collect books and school supplies that allowed to gather about 2700 works.

Arco-Íris Secondary School, Loures, promoted, on June 6, Grouping Day, a presentation ceremony of 9th-grade students' works, some of them about volunteering, which included the delivery of about 250 copies to AIDGLOBAL. Susana Damasceno, President of the Board of Directors, attended the event and gave a brief talk about the work developed by the Organization in Portugal and Mozambique.

The students of the 9ºB class of the Vialonga Schools Grouping created, in turn, a campaign to collect books and school supplies, following a workshop conducted by Sofia Lopes, AIDGLOBAL Project Manager, representing the Development Education Working Group of the Portuguese NGDO Platform. Finished in the first week of June, the initiative raised more than 200 volumes and textbooks.

The Library of the School Grouping of Estremoz, inspired by the AIDGLOBAL mission to equip libraries in Mozambique for a book culture in the country, promoted until May 26, a collection of children's and youth literature that allowed collecting about 100 copies that were delivered to Susana Damasceno, on the last day of the training for teachers "Global Citizenship and the Sustainable Development Goals at School", under the project "Education for GloCal Issues".

The D. Maria Pia Education and Development Center of Casa Pia of Lisbon challenged the 8thM and 9thA classes to organize a campaign to collect books for AIDGLOBAL. The poster for the initiative was developed by the students themselves, under the slogan "I give a book for a smile". On June 14, Susana Damasceno received about 150 books, followed by a presentation of the organization's work, sensitizing those present to civic participation and the importance of practicing and respecting Human Rights.

The Hellen Keller Center, a private educational institution of social solidarity, also developed a campaign along similar lines, from January to June of the current school year. In this context, around 2000 books were collected from the whole school community.

The Forte da Casa School Grouping along with the 7th-grade class, organized a collection of school supplies throughout the school year. A poster contest was held, and the one with the most votes was chosen to be the face of the campaign. This action resulted in two boxes with various school supplies namely pencils, pens and notebooks.
